A draft is always a fun event to fantasize about. It is a possibility for teams to improve the roster by adding young talent. That draft pick can either change a franchise completely like last year’s Zion Williams and Ja Morant, or be a complete non-factor like Malik Munk, Anthony Bennet or even Magic fan-favorite Mario Hezonja. So what do fans do? We watch highlight tapes, read big boards, and obsess over mock drafts to dream of who our team might pick to be our savor. So what do we do here at The Close Up Magic? Well, we do our own mock draft!
I gathered some of the best draft minds I know in the Magic twitter world. People like Xeavor Green and Ramin Baiat, who have already been doing draft player analysis which you can find here. I also gather Richard from Mavsdraft.com who is also a Magic fan. Then I asked two people I am often in group chats within, Malik G and Close Up Magic contributor Jonathan Alicea. We simulated the draft order by using tankathon.com and then arranged who is picking for what team using a simple random sequence generator. We made some small tweaks for teams who had two picks so the drafter could be the same. We had fun. We tried to make it realistic while having a relaxed time based on our own individual knowledge and mocked the upcoming first round. Keep in mind this is random! Some teams had major jumps with the simulator and we are also not scouts working for a team. We are all fans having fun. So…with all that being said, enjoy our first-round mock draft and let us know what you think? Did we get it right? Who would you have picked? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter.
Let us know your thoughts. Did we get the picks right? Who would you have rather had for your team? This was fun and we hope to do it again soon.
